Position Overview:

As the Maintenance Handyperson at voco and Hotel Indigo Brisbane City Centre, you will play a vital role in ensuring our properties are maintained to the highest standards, guaranteeing an exceptional guest experience and smooth operations. Your passion for maintenance, attention to detail, and proactive approach will help ensure that all areas of the hotel are functioning properly and that any issues are resolved quickly.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide regular reports to the Maintenance Manager on system faults and assist in ensuring all systems meet compliance standards through a well-structured preventative maintenance program.

  • Conduct daily lighting checks, maintain the swimming pool, and ensure cleanliness of hard-to-reach areas such as ceilings, light fittings, and air-conditioning filters.

  • Regularly check and service high-use/breakable features in rooms (e.g., doors, window openers, television remote sensors, shower screens).

  • Perform touch-up painting and minor repairs in guest rooms as needed.

  • Respond to maintenance requests within 30 minutes, keeping the Manager on Duty informed of any delays.

  • Quickly action urgent repairs to ensure out-of-order rooms are returned to service as soon as possible.

  • Perform minor tiling, plumbing, and general building repairs as directed.

  • Maintain a safe and clean workshop environment.

  • Actively pursue cost-saving measures and ensure recycling efforts are in place.

  • Inspect and maintain machinery, troubleshoot, and diagnose issues with systems and components.

  • Follow manufacturer-recommended schedules for equipment maintenance and ensure adherence to safety protocols.

  • Ensure all work areas are compliant with safety standards and that flammable materials are stored in approved containment devices.

  • Use Lockout/Tagout procedures when performing maintenance work.

  • Support waste management and grease trap operations.

  • Ensure contractors are properly inducted to site and all necessary documentation is in place.

  • Maintain a contractors' register and ensure all records are up-to-date.

  • Complete and file job sheets for all maintenance work carried out.

  • Ensure time sheets accurately reflect the daily activities of the maintenance department.

  • Participate in engineering risk compliance checks.

Skills & Experience:

  • At least 1-2 years of maintenance or handyman experience in a hospitality or similar environment.

  • Experience with electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance is highly desirable.

  • Relevant trade qualifications (e.g., electrical, plumbing, building maintenance) are a plus.

  • A strong understanding of workplace safety standards and compliance regulations.

  • A passion for delivering high-quality maintenance and ensuring a seamless guest experience.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems quickly and efficiently.

  • Strong attention to detail and proactive attitude.
