Position Overview

The Director of Sales Melbourne is responsible for driving total revenue and market positioning across a cluster of two Melbourne hotels – Next Hotel and Hotel Indigo on Flinders.

This role leads the hotel sales team, builds capability, and drives a high-performance culture focused on conversion, accountability, and commercial excellence.

In partnership with hotel leadership, Revenue Management, the National Sales Office, and external partners, you will develop and execute an integrated commercial strategy that drives demand, strengthens market share, and maximises revenue across all segments including accommodation, meetings and events, corporate, leisure, wholesale, and outlets.

This is a highly influential leadership role requiring strong commercial acumen, stakeholder management, and the ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, multi-property environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute integrated commercial and sales strategies across Next Hotel and Hotel Indigo on Flinders to drive revenue, market share, and profitability across all segments
  • Partner with Revenue Management and key stakeholders to optimise pricing, forecasting, channel mix, and overall commercial performance
  • Lead, coach, and develop the hotel sales team to build capability, improve performance, and deliver strong conversion outcomes
  • Drive acquisition, retention, and growth of key accounts, including corporate, leisure, meetings & events, and wholesale segments
  • Manage and maintain a strong sales pipeline through disciplined CRM usage, reporting, forecasting, and performance tracking
  • Lead sales activity planning, campaigns, and local partnerships to generate demand and strengthen market presence
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders including General Managers, Revenue, National Sales Office, and commercial partners
  • Represent both hotels in market, maintaining strong competitor awareness and identifying new business opportunities
  • Ensure consistent execution of sales processes, including response times, proposals, follow-ups, and pipeline hygiene to maximise conversion
  • Use data, insights, and market trends to continuously improve commercial performance and support broader business initiatives

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience leading and developing a sales team (5+ direct reports preferred)
  • Proven track record managing significant revenue accounts ($1M+ portfolio responsibility)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Conference / M&E Sales or senior commercial leadership role
  • Experience in multi-property or cluster environment strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of hotel commercial strategy, revenue management, and distribution
  • Demonstrated success in driving revenue growth and executing commercial plans
  • Strong CRM and data discipline (Delphi or similar systems preferred)
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Qualification in Business, Hospitality, or related field (preferred)
